ITS-Directive
This document attempts to explain the scope of the ITS-Directive, bearing in mind that it still needs to be transposed into national legislation. This document is primarily intended to outline the tasks facing road and transport authorities. A reflection for road authorities and transport authorities on the EU Directive for Intelligent Transport Systems.
The ITS Directive has existed since 2010. With its recent amendment, the European Union has taken another step forward in regulation concerning the harmonized implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems. The ITS Directive defines the powers of the European Commission regarding the deployment of ITS.
Collecting and making available accurate and complete data for travel information and navigation services requires intensive public–private cooperation. Road authorities and transport authorities play a crucial role in this. It makes traffic safer, more efficient, and therefore more sustainable. It leads to less searching behavior, less distraction, lower emissions, and greater efficiency, and it aligns with the government’s responsibility to properly inform citizens. Through integration with digital Traffic Circulation Plans in these services, the livability of public space is also improved.
